MARILYN WILSON
Ta Moko Provider - Mid North
Marilyn is a qualified Occupational Therapist and Counsellor registered with both the Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand (OTBNZ) and the Drug and Alcohol Practitioners’ Association Aotearoa-New Zealand (DAPAANZ).
She has had experience helping people work through both acute and chronic mental health challenges, drug and alcohol
addiction issues, family relationship difficulties, personality disorder problems, and the trials associated with identifying
and dealing with trauma arising from a wide range of experiences.
Her approaches to working with people draw on her passions for understanding systems and structures, identifying and
acknowledging environmental and cultural influences and teaching skills to help people think and act in different ways when
faced with familiar challenges. Many clients come to counselling after years of coping with their trauma by denying, avoiding
and carrying on. When they learn about how their thoughts, emotions and subsequent behaviours are all connected, they then
have the chance to change it to a positive. Marilyn has an overall optimism in the ability of people to find new meaning and purpose
that will lead them towards recovery.
Marilyn worked in both New Zealand and the UK before establishing her private practice in the Kaikohe and Kerikeri areas. She enjoys
seeing her clients overcoming past challenges and trauma and reaching their treatment goals and helping clients discover the lifelong
tools they need to continue to manage their lives more effectively.
When Marilyn is not working you will find her either with her friends and family, or in her happy place - the garden.
