EMILY FIFIELD
Social Worker/Counsellor - Bay of Islands
Over the course of our lives many people experience situations and events they may find challenging, which overwhelm their ability to cope. With the right support the impact can be lessened.
Over the past 15 years Emily has been supporting people to live fulfilling lives and overcome the hurdles that trauma can bring. During this time she has supported the homeless and also those journeying through ill health and end of life care. More recently Emily has been providing specialised mental health and trauma informed practice for emergency service employees and search and rescue volunteers. Her passion comes from experiencing her own trauma as a child and now seeing what support would have been beneficial at the time to navigate her journey as an adult. This is where Emily’s passion lies.
Therapeutic Social Work is at the core of Emily’s practice, creating a warm and inviting environment and really listening to the needs of the people she feels privileged to meet. She is passionate about our connection with nature and the environment, and as a teacher of Yoga also draws upon these ancient traditions to promote holistic wellbeing, alongside mindfulness-based techniques.
Emily has worked with people from a diversity of backgrounds and cultures in both her home country, England, and now Aotearoa. Understanding Te Ao Māori and bicultural practice is hugely important to Emily, having gained a strong interest in this indigenous culture while living in Aotearoa. Māori and other cultural models of health and wellbeing guide her in her practice.
She enjoys working with people to identify their strengths which can help to overcome barriers and provide space for healing and growth to take place.
